En esta publicación se presentan siete documentos de información y un informe sobre estudios de casos preparados en el curso del, proceso de negociación que precedió al la aprobación de las Directivas voluntarias en apoyo de la realización progresiva del derecho a una alimentación adecuada en el contexto de la seguridad alimentaria nacional. Los documentos de información se refieren a cuestiones controvertidas en el curso de les negociaciones o a complejas cuestiones jurídicas respecto de les cuales se pedieron aclaraciones. En el informe sobre estudios de casos se resume el resultado de los estudios encomendados en cinco países para reunir información acerca de la experiencia práctica en cada país con diferentes políticas y programas propicios para hacer realidad el derecho de la población a una alimentación adecuada. Se incluye también el texto íntegro de las Directrices voluntarias. Quienes trabajan en gobiernos, organismos de desarrollo, la sociedad civil y círculos académicos en la tarea de hacer realidad el derecho a la alimentación deberían encontrar en esta publicación una valiosa herramienta para la adopción de decisiones.

    The Workshop on the Age Estimation of Sardine and Sardinella in Northwest Africa was organized in Casablanca, Morocco, from 4 to 9 December 2006. The Workshop was funded by project GCP/INT/730/NOR International Cooperation with the Nansen Program. Fisheries Management and Marine Environment and organized by FAO and the National Institute of Fisheries Research (INRH). Altogether 15 scientists from seven countries and FAO participated. The Workshop reviewed and discussed the results of an otolith exchange that had been carried out in 2006 and which included both sardine and sardinella otoliths from different locations.     The use of ice on board smaller fishing vessels is increasing, due to factors such as the growing demand for fresh fish, market globalisation and increased quality controls, and the decrease in near-shore fish resources which forces fisherman to make longer fishing trips and use ice to preserve the freshness of their catch. This publication describes the requirements for the use of ice and chilled seawater on fishing vessels, from small insulated containers in dugout canoes, to refrigerated tanks on bigger vessels.
