This is a textbook for first-year college Spanish. The grammar has been simplified in order to free the instructor to concentrate on developing conversational skills. Most college texts say that their objective is to develop oral proficiency, but they include many grammar concepts which a student will never master conversationally in the first year. Espanol Para Hoy has been simplified as much as possible. Although the grammar presentations have been streamlined, the number and variety of exercises practicing each concept have been expanded. This gives students the opportunity to master the basic concepts well and to feel successful doing so.
